Air India confirmed in its press release that it placed orders for 250 Airbus planes and 220 new Boeing planes worth $70 billion at list prices on Tuesday.
At the Paris Airshow, the airline entered into independent purchase agreements with the two plane makers for the jets and some related services.
Air India has placed firm orders for 70 widebody planes, including 34 A350-1000s. This further includes six A350-900s from Airbus, as well as 20 787 Dreamliners and ten 777Xs from Boeing. Additionally, 140 Airbus A320neo, 70 A321neo, and 190 Boeing 737 MAX narrowbody planes order has been placed.
In a separate statement by Boeing, it was announced that the airline has also secured options for an additional 70 aircraft from them, comprising 50 737 MAXs and 20 787 Dreamliners. This order marks Boeing’s largest in the South Asian region.
According to Boeing, the two companies agreed on an order for up to 290 new Boeing jets, which also includes an option for additional 70 jets and expanded services.
Further, Air India said that the deliveries of Airbus A350 will lead, which are expected to arrive later this year, while the bulk of the orders will arrive from mid-2025 onwards.
