According to the most recent price notification sent out by fuel merchants, the cost of gasoline and diesel was constant in all major cities on October 17. In Delhi, a liter of gasoline costs Rs96.72 and a liter of diesel costs Rs89.62. In Mumbai, the price of diesel is Rs94.27 and that of gasoline is Rs106.31 a liter. Diesel and gasoline are priced at Rs102.63 and Rs94.24 in Chennai and Rs106.03 and Rs92.76 in Kolkata, respectively.
According to early industry statistics, India’s gasoline sales increased in the first half of October due to an all-around increase in transportation fuel demand as the festival season began to take up. In the first half of October, sales of gasoline and diesel increased month over month and by 22 to 26% annually. When compared to consumption of 1.05 million tonnes during the same period last year, gasoline sales during the first 15 days of October increased by 22.7% to 1.28 million tonnes.
Demand for gasoline increased 6.9 % month over month after sales dropped by over 5% in August before recovering in September. An increase in diesel demand, according to industry insiders, was caused by the end of the monsoon season in much of the nation and the beginning of the agricultural season, according to a PTI report.
