According to news reports, unseasonal rains in north India at the end of April and the beginning of May have slowed down sales of cooling items including air conditioners, freezers, and coolers. In April and May, which are regarded as the industry’s peak months, customers have put off buying air conditioners.
Some manufacturers reported a 15% decrease in sales in April compared to the same month last year.
However, manufacturers like Panasonic, Godrej, and Daikin are anticipating that once summer returns to normal, industry sales will pick up again.
Since April weather this year has been cooler than usual, there has been less growth than in the previous year. As of right now, many customers are delaying their AC purchases, according to Gaurav Sah, Business Head, Air Conditioners Group, Panasonic Life Solutions India who talked to ET.
He did, however, add, ‘It’s a long summer ahead and we are hoping that sales will catch up.’
The unseasonal rains in the north, according to the Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA), have temporarily impacted sales of air conditioners, refrigerators, and coolers.
The domestic home air conditioning market is thought to have 8 million units and had double-digit growth during the most recent fiscal year.
