The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, sometimes known as the ‘bullet train’ project, is being overseen by officials who claimed to ET that progress was being made quickly and highlighted the Gujarati example of three river crossings being built in a month.
Four of the 24 bridges have been erected in the last six months, according to representatives of the National High-Speed Rail Corridor, which is building the high-speed corridor.
‘Of these four, we were able to complete the construction of three bridges in the Navsari district in a month, which are located between the stations of Bilimora and Surat on the HSR line. Twenty of the 24 river crossings on the corridor are in Gujarat, and the remaining 12 are in Maharashtra, according to a release from NHSRCL.
‘The first bridge over the Purna River, the second over the Mindhola Rover, and the third over the Ambika River were all finished. Three river crossings were finished in the last month, which represents a substantial advancement for the MAHSR corridor, according to NHSRCL, an Indian Railways wholly-owned subsidiary.
According to the NHSRCL, the longest river bridge in Gujarat will be 1.2 kilometres long and will span the Narmada River, while the longest bridge in Maharashtra will be 2.28 kilometres long and span the Vaitarna River.
Building bridges over rivers requires careful planning, according to NHSRCL’s managing director Rajendra Prasad.
The tides of the Arabian Sea were carefully observed while the Mindhola and Purna River bridges were being built. For the purpose of building a bridge over the Ambika River, our engineers toiled at a height of 26 meters, he remarked.
The 360-meter-long Purna River Bridge required constant monitoring of the Arabian Sea’s high and low tides while it was being built, according to NHSRCL, who also noted that the foundation work was difficult because the river’s water level was rising five to six meters during high tides.
The building of eight HSR stations in Gujarat, including Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati, is in varying phases.
The bullet train project’s first phase is scheduled to begin operations in 2026, according to NHSRCL.
