According to Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, Amul would combine with five other cooperative societies to form the Multi-State Cooperative Society (MSCS). Speaking at the North Eastern Council’s (NEC) 70th plenary meeting in Guwahati, Shah said that the merger process had already begun.
“The Prime Minister Narendra Modi government is putting attention to natural agriculture and digital agriculture, and the process to build a multi-state cooperative society by merging Amul and five other cooperative societies for certification of natural products has started,” he said.
After certification, the MSCS will ensure the export of the goods so that farmers can get their profits immediately into their bank accounts.
Under the Amul brand, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. offers its goods.
Speaking earlier on Friday at the North-Eastern Cooperative Dairy Conclave in Gangtok, Shah emphasized the need for the nation’s milk production to quadruple over the next five years in order to meet both home and international demand.
The government is establishing a multi-state cooperative that will serve as the export house to explore this global market, he had said. “We have a big possibility to deliver milk to nations like Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka,” he said.
