Apple Supplier Luxshare Shifts $330 Million Investment from India to Vietnam Amid Political Tension

17 Nov 2023 , 02:51 PM

Luxshare, a major Chinese component manufacturer for Apple, opts to invest in Vietnam over India due to political tensions between the two countries. After unsuccessful attempts to expand operations in India over three years, Luxshare decides to shift a $330 million investment to Vietnam’s Bac Giang province.

Luxshare, Apple’s primary supplier for AirPods and a potential iPhone supplier, aims to benefit from the Vietnam government’s approval for Apple’s manufacturer license, bringing the total investment to $504 million.

The move poses a potential loss for India as Apple had plans to include Indian conglomerates like the Tatas in its supply value chain network.

Apple’s increasing reliance on China for manufacturing has raised concerns, with Luxshare’s decision reflecting the company’s strategic intent. While Apple initiated assembly of non-Pro iPhone 15 models in India through Foxconn, the production of the flagship iPhone 15 Pro series remains outside India.
