Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation in collaboration with Swiggy will launch food delivery services to travellers at Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada train stations on March 12.
Swiggy said that meal delivery services would be expanded to 59 additional railway stations in the following weeks. On Tuesday, Swiggy meals Marketplace and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to supply pre-ordered meals aboard trains.
Passengers may order pre-ordered meals via Swiggy after entering their PNR into the IRCTC app and selecting their favourite station for food delivery.
Sanjay Kumar Jain, the Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC, expressed that the collaboration with Swiggy aims to enhance convenience and food choices for passengers, adding to the overall positive experience of their journeys.
Rohit Kapoor, the CEO of Swiggy, expressed optimism about the partnership, anticipating a positive response from both passengers and restaurant operators on this route. He hopes that the success of this initiative will pave the way for extending services to more stations and exploring new routes.
Rohit Kapoor stated that having the opportunity to order meals during rail journeys that span various states and districts would enhance the convenience and enjoyment of the experience. This addition would contribute to the overall richness of train travel by allowing passengers to explore the diverse culinary offerings of India.
Swiggy will transport meals from its huge restaurant network to passengers on Indian trains beginning in Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada, according to the MoU. The service is expected to extend to 59 more city stations in the following weeks.
In addition, the business stated that the food given to passengers will be packaged in insulated Swiggy bags to keep it warm and fresh. Swiggy’s delivery partner would arrive at the specified platform a few minutes before delivery, give over the meal to the consumer, and mark the food as delivered.
