Tata Motors and Tata International have launched a vehicle scrapping facility named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect’ in Pune. The facility has an annual capacity to dismantle 21,000 vehicles, including passenger and commercial vehicles from all brands.
Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, emphasized the initiative as part of the company’s commitment to responsible and sustainable vehicle recycling.
The facility is managed by Tata International Vehicle Applications (TIVA) and complies with government guidelines for environmentally safe dismantling. Processes at the facility focus on the safe disposal of critical components such as tyres, batteries, and fuel, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
This initiative aligns with India’s strategy to regulate vehicle recycling and manage end-of-life vehicles, contributing to sustainability goals. Rajeev Batra, CEO of TIVA, highlighted that the recycling capacity addresses the growing number of ageing vehicles in the country.
The Pune centre expands Tata’s Re.Wi.Re network, which already operates similar facilities in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Surat, Chandigarh, and Delhi NCR. All centres in the network employ a digital, paperless system, enhancing efficiency and sustainability. The initiative demonstrates Tata’s proactive role in advancing green practices in India’s automobile industry.
