In August, state-owned CIL’s coal production fell by 11.9% to 46.1 million tonnes (MT), according to the PSU. Coal India Ltd (CIL) said in a BSE filing that its coal production in the same month of the previous fiscal year was 52.3 million tonnes.
However, the company’s coal production increased to 290.4 MT between April and August, up from 281.5 MT the previous year, according to the filing.
Coal consumption in August fell to 52.1 MT, down from 59.1 MT in the same month the previous fiscal year.
CIL accounts for more than 80 percent of domestic coal production.
Coal India’s production increased by 10% to 773.6 million tonnes in 2023-24, but fell short of its aim of 780 MT for the fiscal year.
CIL produced 703.2 MT in the prior fiscal year 2022-23.
