NLC India Ltd and the Rajasthan government signed an agreement for a joint venture on Sunday to establish two power projects with a total capacity of 1125 megawatts, involving an investment of ₹7,000 Crore.
The projects include a 125 MW lignite-based power plant and a 1000 MW solar power plant, according to the Ministry of Coal.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NLC India Limited and Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVUNL) signifies a substantial investment exceeding ₹7000 Crore.
NLC India, a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Coal, is engaged in lignite mining and the development of thermal and renewable power plants.
The company annually produces about 30 million tonnes of lignite from mines in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, using it in pithead thermal power stations with a total installed capacity of 3640 MW.
NLC India has diversified into renewable energy production, boasting a 1000 MW thermal power station using coal and a 1404 MW solar power plant, along with 51 MW generated from windmills.
Established in 1956 as a wholly government-owned entity, NLC India later offered a portion of its stock to the public for listing on stock exchanges.
