US-bound ship collides with BPCL crude facility

12 Mar 2024 , 09:15 AM

News reports stated on Monday that the oil tanker Hafnia Seine, which was headed for the United States from Sikka port in Western India, collided with Bharat Petroleum Corp.’s (BPCL) crude import facility late on Sunday.

The reports said the level of damage remained unknown and that the tanker was transporting alkylate, a fuel used to blend gasoline, for Reliance Industries’ U.S. business from a refinery in Jamnagar, Gujarat state.

One of the reports stated that “it looks to have hit the peripheral structure of the single point mooring (SPM)” and that there is currently no scheduled vessel discharge at the SPM.

In order to import crude for its landlocked refinery in Bina, central India, BPCL maintains a single point mooring at Sikka.
