Vinay Firake appointed CEO, APMEA, of Wipro

13 May 2024 , 12:34 PM

Wipro has elevated a company veteran of three decades as the head of its Asia Pacific business, weeks after terminating its first foreign CEO and replacing him with internal talent to undertake a difficult turnaround. Vinay Firake, who has been with Wipro for 26 years, will become the next CEO of the APMEA (Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, and Africa) strategic market Unit (SMU), effective immediately.

“Vinay will report to (CEO) Srini Pallia and will also join the Wipro Executive Board,” the company stated in an exchange statement.

Firake was the senior vice president and managing director of Wipro Nordics, a business unit situated in Stockholm, Sweden, where he oversaw operations across sectors and services.

This is the second senior leadership appointment under new CEO and Managing Director Srini Pallia, who took over in April after Thierry Delaporte, a CapGemini veteran of nearly three decades, left Wipro long before his intended departure date.

Earlier this month, the Bengaluru-headquartered IT giant named Hari Shetty as its new chief strategist and sales excellence officer. Firake, headquartered in Dubai, is taking over from Anis Chenchah, another seasoned CapGemini professional who served in the role for two years. Chenchah will remain until May 31, 2024, to support Firake during the transition period.

Analysts describe Wipro’s rebound as protracted and arduous, and Tata Consultancy, Infosys, and HCLTech have increased the distance with the previous bellwether. The stock is down more than a third from its all-time peak in early 2022.

Firake formerly oversaw the manufacturing and automotive business unit in Europe and held a variety of roles in Europe and North America, including global head of enterprise digital operations and platforms and sales head for Wipro’s enterprise applications businesses in Europe.
