Toyota Motor Corp. stated on Wednesday that from October 2016 to May 2023, a setting error in the cloud environment may have resulted in customer information from several countries in Asia, except Japan, and Oceania being left publicly available.
According to the firm, customer data that might have been exposed to the outside world included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and car identification and registration numbers.
The incident comes after the company revealed earlier this month that owing to a human error, the car data of 2.15 million users in Japan—almost the entire customer base who registered for its primary cloud service platforms since 2012—had been made publicly accessible for ten years.
Following the prior occurrence, Toyota says it conducted a thorough examination before identifying the most recent problem.
We have created a method to monitor cloud configurations since we think that this event was also brought on by inadequate distribution and enforcement of data management standards, Toyota added.
It added that vehicle location and payment card information were not included in the incident and that the firm had looked into whether any copies or uses of its customer data by third parties existed.
