Bharat Electronics gets Rs 3,800 crore orders

24 Mar 2023 , 09:31 AM

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has got orders of Rs 3,800 crore from Ministry of Defense.

The contracts are for the supply of radars and receivers, which will improve the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force.

Under the ‘Buy Indian IDDM’ category, the Indian Ministry of Defence has awarded two contracts to Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) for the supply of Medium Power Radars (MPR) called ‘Arudhra’ and 129 DR-118 Radar Warning Receivers (RWR). The contracts are valued at over Rs 2,800 crore and approximately Rs 950 crore, respectively.

These projects aim to improve the Indian Air Force’s surveillance, detection, tracking, and electronic warfare capabilities.

According to a statement by the Indian Air Force (IAF), these contracts embody the essence of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and will support India’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in the defence manufacturing sector.

The MPR (Arudhra) radar, which will be supplied by BEL, has been designed and developed domestically by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and has already undergone successful trials conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

According to the statement, the Su-30 MKI aircraft’s electronic warfare capabilities will be significantly improved with the DR-118 RWR. The majority of components and parts will be procured from local manufacturers.

Following this development, Bharat Electronics is trading 0.81% higher at Rs92.85, against the previous close of Rs92.10 on NSE. The counter opened at Rs93.95.
