The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained an executive director (ED) of GAIL (India) Ltd. and four others in connection with a bribery case worth Rs 50 lakh. According to an official, payments were allegedly offered to favor certain contractors in gas pipeline construction.
According to the official, those arrested include executive director KB Singh, chief general manager Davinder Singh, and Surender Kumar, director of Vadodara-based Advance Infrastructures.
GAIL has confirmed the said arrests via regulatory filing.
A bribe is alleged to have been paid in exchange for favoring the corporation in two GAIL pipeline projects: Srikakulam to Angul and Vijaypur to Auraiya. Following information regarding the bribe exchange, the CBI initiated an investigation, executing searches and arrests in the offices of GAIL’s senior management.
Searches are being conducted in Delhi, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and Visakhapatnam.
