In a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Thursday, Coal India expressed its interest in buying 800 MW of power from Mahanadi Basin Power (MBPL), a fully owned subsidiary of Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL), from Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC). Formalising and defining the fundamental framework of talks for the power purchase agreement is the aim of the memorandum of understanding.
The CIL division that produces the most coal in Odisha is MCL. The state of Haryana is eager to guarantee the availability of electricity to fulfil its increasing energy needs.
Section 62 of the Electricity Act of 2003 will apply to power purchase, as per the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding. This is the process by which the relevant commission establishes the power tariff for the supply of electricity by a generating company to a distribution licensee in compliance with the act’s provisions.
