Dharavi Swaps Streets for Sprawling Squares in Adani Deal

A joint venture between the Adani Group and the Maharashtra government, Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL) announced on January 15 that qualified buyers in Dharavi will receive apartments with separate kitchens and bathrooms measuring at least 350 square feet. This is a startling 17% more than other slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai.

Homebuyers who were established before to January 1, 2000, are eligible.

All Dharavikars will have their ideal houses in the new apartments, which will also improve their quality of life. Every house will be a reflection of the Dharavikar spirit, whose goals have always been similar to those of the average Mumbaikar. A DRPPL representative stated, ‘We at DRPPL are dedicated to realizing these goals and aspirations while preserving the very soul of Dharavi.

Each apartment will be secure, well-ventilated, well-lit, and hygienic, with an integrated independent toilet and separate kitchen.

The proposed affordable rental housing strategy in Dharavi would provide houses to eligible purchasers in accordance with the guidelines established by the Maharashtra government. In light of the high demand for housing, several Navi Dharavis are being planned for development akin to Dharavi, according to the officials.

In the past, Maharashtra’s informal settlement residents were provided with 269 square foot dwellings. As of 2018, the state government has been providing them with residences that range in size from 315 to 322 square feet, which is the minimum area required by the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for housing for the urban poor.
