Consumer confidence in the U.S. improved much more than expected in the month of September, the Conference Board revealed in a report released on Tuesday. Consumer confidence index climbed to 108.0 in September from an upwardly revised 103.6 in August. The bigger than expected increase by the headline index came as the present situation index increased to 149.6 in September from 145.3 in August, while the expectations index rose to 80.3 from 75.8.
