Gogoro, a Nasdaq-listed battery swapping firm, said on Monday that it has entered into an initial agreement with HPCL to establish battery swapping stations around the country over the next several years.
Gogoro will create a comprehensive battery switching infrastructure for electric two-wheelers as part of the agreement, and will roll out battery swapping stations across HPCL’s retail locations across the country, according to a statement from the firm.
According to the company, HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd), a public sector oil marketing organisation, has approximately 21,000 retail locations.
India is in the early phases of a big electric transformation of its urban two-wheeler transportation system, and it is becoming clear that battery swapping is a necessary component to widespread adoption, therefore developing swapping infrastructure is important, said Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro.
He also stated that Gogoro is collaborating with the Indian business sector as well as national and local governments to build an open, accessible, and scalable battery swapping and electric car ecosystem.
