According to TRAI data, India’s largest telecom operator, Reliance Jio, added 16.8 lakh, mobile subscribers, in April, strengthening its market leadership, while Bharti Airtel added 8.1 lakh. Monthly subscriber data issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday also stated that Vodafone Idea lost roughly 15.7 lakh, mobile members, in April 2022.
According to the report, Jio added 16.8 lakh new customers, bringing its total number of mobile users to 40.5 million. Bharti Airtel, helmed by Sunil Mittal, was also a net gainer in April, adding 8.1 lakh new mobile users. Airtel now has 36.11 crore mobile subscribers, as a result of the net additions.
Vodafone Idea has lost a whopping 15.68 lakh subscribers in April, bringing its total subscriber base to 25.9 crore. India’s total wireless customers climbed marginally to 114.3 crore at the end of April 2022, according to TRAI data.
At the end of April, wireless subscriptions in urban areas fell to 62.4 crore, while rural markets increased to 51.8 crore. “The monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscriptions were -0.07% and 0.20%, respectively,” according to the TRAI.
Total broadband customers climbed slightly month over month to 78.87 crore at the end of April. The top five service providers accounted for 98.4% of the market. These service providers included Reliance Jio (41.1 crore), Bharti Airtel (21.5 crore), Vodafone Idea (12.2 crore).
