In the first half of 2022, from January to June, tea exports grew to 96.89 million kg from 86.46 million kg over the same time in the previous year.
According to data from the Tea Board, the CIS block, which has historically been the biggest importer, saw a little decline in exports over the current six-month period, from 21.04 million kg to 20.58 million kg.
News reports claim that the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, which has severely impacted shipment operations, is to blame for the reduction in sales.
Russia has been the largest importer inside the CIS bloc, with 14.76 million kg imported as opposed to 15.88 million kg during the same prior time.
UAE, which imported 15.86 million kg during the first six months of this year compared to 6.76 million kg during the previous comparable period, was the second-largest importer after the CIS.
In contrast to the previous period’s 10.04 million kg, exports to Iran reached 11.43 million kg in the current first half.
Exports during the current period were 1.35 million kg as a result of the exporters’ inability to access the market due to Sri Lanka’s economic crisis.
In the current first half, the total value of exports climbed to Rs2,532.67 crore from Rs2306.77 crore in the prior comparable period.
The predicted production for July 2022 was 152.57 million kg, down from 180.45 million kg for the same month in 2021, according to the board.
