Tata Power said on Friday that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has asked it to cut particulate matter emissions from its producing facility here in half to assist reduce pollution.
MPCB has asked Tata Power to explore the feasibility of reducing the particulate matter from the stack from the present permissible 100 Mg/Nm3 to a more benign 50 Mg/Nm3, stated a source.
Despite its inherent benefit of being a coastal city, Mumbai suffers from extremely severe air pollution.
Experts blame the issue on infrastructure and development activities, as well as weak implementation of pollution-control legislation.
Following this development, Tata Power was trading 2.50% higher at Rs 250.85, against the previous close of Rs 244.60 on NSE. The counter touched an intraday high and low of Rs 251.20 and Rs 245.60, respectively.
