Markets saw selling in later half of the day

6 Oct 2022 , 04:07 PM

Indian equity markets had a day in green today. But selling, probably driven by profit-booking, dominated the later half of the day. This resulted in equity markets losing some of the gains of the first half of the day. Nifty 50 ended, up by 86.85 points. Sensex ended, up by 156.63 points. Top Gainers today were JSW Steel, Coal India, Hindalco. Top Losers today were Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC.

All broad market indicies were in green today. Among sectoral indicies, Nifty FMCG Index, Nifty Pharma Index, Nity Healthcare Index, and Nifty Financial Services Index ended the day in red. Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare Indices were in green for the past few days. There ending in red today indicates that some profit-booking took place in these stocks. Nifty FMCG index was the biggest loser today. Expectation that performance of many FMCG companies may be weak in September caused the decline in FMCG Index. 68 stocks touched their 52 week highs today. 8 stocks touched their 52 week lows.
