On Wednesday, December 27, Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash Ambani said that the telecom company is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay to introduce the ‘Bharat GPT’ initiative.
Ambani made this statement during his speech at the institute’s yearly Techfest in Mumbai. He did not, however, offer any other information.
The talks are still in the early stages, and neither party has reached an agreement, a source close to the business told Inc42.
A television operating system (OS) is something Jio is ‘comprehensively thinking’ about launching, according to Ambani, who also mentioned that the product has been in the works for some time.
He stated, ‘We have been developing our own operating system for the TVs for a while, and we are carefully considering how to launch it.’
Furthermore, Ambani stated that generative AI and large language models (LLMs) have ‘barely scratched the surface’ of the developing field and that AI-powered applications will define the upcoming ten years. AI would ‘transform every area of products and services,’ according to him.
The chairman of Reliance Jio outlined his aspirations for the company’s future by stating that AI will be introduced ‘horizontally’ across all of its operating areas in addition to being used vertically within the organisation. He announced that Jio will soon introduce AI-powered goods and services for its media, commerce, communication, and gadget businesses.
He also shown confidence in Jio’s new product, 5G private networks, during the speech, stating that the company will provide a 5G stack to businesses of all sizes.
Ambani encouraged young entrepreneurs to work for the welfare of society and not be frightened of failure, citing Jio as the largest startup in the world.
The news is made at a time when Jio is launching a tonne of new products, including possible cloud laptops and Jio Bharat phones. The digital juggernaut has declared a collaboration with NVIDIA, the industry leader in chip design, to develop a cutting-edge cloud-based AI computing infrastructure.
Additionally, the business and TM Forum collaborated to launch Mumbai’s first TM Forum Innovation Hub, which will concentrate on the advancement of open digital architecture (ODA), GenAI, and LLMs.
Chairman and managing director of Reliance Group, Mukesh Ambani, stated earlier this year at the company’s annual general meeting that India must use AI to spur innovation and growth in order to remain competitive.
