The government has extended State Bank of India chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara’s tenure till August next year while offering a two-year extension to the bank’s managing director Ashwini Kumar Tewari.
The administration announced on Thursday that Khara has been granted an extension until the age of 63. Khara was born on the 28th of August, 1961.
Khara became Chairman of the country’s largest lender on October 7, 2020, for a three-year term. His current term will expire on October 6.
Tewari’s two-year contract extension will take effect on January 28, 2024.
Khara, a postgraduate in Commerce from the Delhi School of Economics, is a career banker who began his career with SBI in 1984 and rose to the top. He has an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies in New Delhi.
Under his leadership, SBI has surpassed its quarterly profit numbers for the fourth time in a row, reaching a record Rs 16,884 crore in the June 2023 quarter.
