Markets end the day on a flat note

Indian stock market’s key equity benchmarks, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, ended the trading session on Friday, May 24, with marginal declines. The Sensex dipped by 7.65 points, or 0.01%, to close at 75,410.39, while the Nifty 50 dropped 10.60 points, or 0.05%, to finish at 22,957.10. The market saw mixed sentiments with 1,467 shares advancing, 1,875 shares declining, and 89 shares remaining unchanged.

Among the top performers on the Nifty were HDFC Bank, L&T, Bharti Airtel, BPCL, and Axis Bank. Conversely, the top losers included Adani Ports, Tata Consumer, Tech Mahindra, Titan, and M&M.

Sector-wise, Oil & Gas, Capital Goods, Telecom, and Media sectors registered gains ranging from 0.5 to 2%. On the other hand, sectors such as FMCG, Healthcare, IT, Metal, and Realty saw declines of about 0.5% each.

The BSE Midcap index experienced a slight increase of 0.2%, whereas the Smallcap index edged down by 0.2%.
