Sensex and Nifty close in red on October 7, 2024

The Indian stock market extended its losing streak to six consecutive sessions on October 7, as volatility continued to impact trading.

The Sensex closed 638.45 points lower, down 0.78%, settling at 81,050, while the Nifty declined by 218.80 points or 0.87%, closing at 24,795.80.

The biggest losers in the Nifty included NTPC, Adani Ports, Adani Enterprises, SBI, and Coal India, while top gainers were ITC, Bharti Airtel, Trent, M&M, and Infosys.

The IT sector was the only one to close in positive territory, gaining 0.6%, while all other sectors ended in the red. Sectors like PSU banks, healthcare, capital goods, realty, metal, power, oil & gas, media, and telecom saw declines of 1-3%.

The BSE Midcap index dropped by 2%, and the Smallcap index fell by over 3%.

Over 160 stocks, including Coforge, Dr. Lal PathLab, V-Mart Retail, and Strides Pharma, hit 52-week highs, while 130 stocks, including Vodafone Idea, Zee Entertainment, and IDFC First Bank, hit 52-week lows.
