Sensex and Nifty in Red on May 28, 2025

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty were trading in the negative territory on May 28, 2025 in the afternoon session. Around 2:00 PM, Sensex was trading 164 points, down, or 0.20% at 81,387. The Nifty was down 54 points or 0.22% at 24,771.

Market breadth on NSE was mixed as 1,375 shares advanced and 1,180 shares declined. In the Nifty 50 index, 17 stocks settled in the green, while 33 stocks closed in the red indicating a cautious sentiment.

​The Nifty FMCG index was the biggest loser among sectoral indices, down 1.29%, following losses in shares of ITC and Nestle. Nifty Metal and Nifty Consumer Durables indices fell 0.3% each. On the positive side, Nifty IT emerged as the top gainer, up 0.5%, backed by firm trends in the technology sector. Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Realty indices rose 0.3% each as well.

In the Sensex pack, Bajaj Finance, Bharat Electronics, Adani Ports and ICICI Bank were the top gainers. Top Sensex losers included ITC, Nestle India, IndusInd Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Top gainers in Nifty include HDFC Life, Bharat Elec, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel. The top losers in Nifty are ITC, Nestle, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank. HDFC Life, Bharat Elec are the top gainers in Nifty.  In the broader market, the BSE Midcap index is up by 0.57% while the BSE Small cap Index is up by 0.57% from the last close.
