Sensex, Nifty Suffer Fourth Consecutive Loss; Nifty Slips Below 22,000

On April 18, Indian benchmark indices closed in the red for the fourth consecutive session, with the Nifty slipping below the 22,000 mark.

At the closing bell, the Sensex recorded a decline of 454.69 points or 0.62%, settling at 72,488.99. Similarly, the Nifty ended the day lower by 152.10 points or 0.69%, reaching 21,995.80. Market activity saw 2506 shares advancing, 1146 shares declining, and 129 shares remaining unchanged.

Among the notable losers on the Nifty were Apollo Hospitals, Nestle India, ONGC, Axis Bank, and Titan Company, while Bharti Airtel, Power Grid Corporation, Hindalco Industries, Bajaj Auto, and LTIMindtree emerged as the top gainers.

With the exception of the telecom and media sectors, all other sectoral indices traded in negative territory.

The BSE midcap index saw a decline of 0.5%, while the smallcap index concluded the day with marginal changes, ending on a flat note.
