Tata Steel, a private steel company, said on Wednesday that it will collaborate with South Eastern Railway (SER) to construct sustainable rail infrastructure using its slag-based aggregates.
Officials from the SER and Tata Steel met to discuss project implementation, according to a corporate statement.
The use of sustainable alternatives is urgent, and it will also aid in environmental conservation, according to SER General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra, who spoke at the ceremony on Tuesday.
Tata Aggreto, a greener alternative to natural aggregates used in road building, and Tata Nirman, a raw material used in the production of fly ash bricks and cement, will be utilised to build blanketing layers in railway lines.
During the discussion, Rajeev Shrivastava, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), informed attendees about the Ministry of Railways’ intention to enhance train infrastructure.
Tata Steel has established an expedited weathering plant for processing LD slag using steam ageing as part of its efforts to convert steel slag into sustainable aggregate.
The use of slag-based manufactured aggregates contributes to biodiversity conservation by lowering the demand for natural aggregate mining and eliminating the need for aggregate transportation over long distances, according to the statement.
