Telecom Industry offering higher salary hikes as demand for talent increases

8 Jul 2022 , 12:06 PM

According to employment companies, the telecom sector, which includes big operators Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, is offering salary increases of 10—12% on average for this fiscal year. This is a huge increase from the average increment of 7.5% last year.

The typical increments, according to the three telcos, are 8—12%.

The majority of businesses have informed their staff members about salary increases. According to the hiring firms, some employers have already started paying out the higher rates, while others anticipate doing so starting in July.

According to TeamLease, there are 4 million individuals employed in the telecom sector, which also includes infrastructure and equipment suppliers, virtual network operators, and other sectors.

According to HR experts, operators are investing significantly to upskill and reskill high-performing staff even though they are trying to retain as much talent as possible in order to get ready for the launch of 5G services. The rise in HR budgets at telecom industry companies is estimated to be 8—10%.

The sales and tech profiles have led the increases in this cycle from a profile perspective. Customer-facing positions and those in the technical backend have become more important as a result of Covid’s increased embrace of digitalization in the telecom industry; the demand for the latter has also been enhanced by the approaching roll-out of 5G technology. Talent in the fields of cloud computing, AI analytics, IoT, and mobile app development is also in high demand.

The difference in raises between sales and technical tasks is getting smaller, which is an emerging trend in the industry’s wage adjustments. Sales employees typically received larger raises than those with technical credentials.
