The S&P 500 gave up early gains and closed lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged higher and the Nasdaq fell slightly. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 29.07 points, or 0.09%, to 32,832.54. The S&P 500 lost 5.13 points, or 0.12%, to 4,140.06 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 13.10 points, or 0.1%, to 12,644.46. Investors prepare for a busy week of economic updates that could help answer whether the Federal Reserves efforts to cool the economy and quell inflation are working, or whether the central bank will continue aggressively raising interest rates.
