Warner Bros Discovery postpones launch of HBO Max in India

22 Aug 2022 , 12:03 PM

HBO Max, a well-known American subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service, will not be launched in India by Warner Bros. Discovery at this time. Instead, the business is looking at worldwide cost-cutting measures and trying to merge Discovery+ with HBO Max in the existing countries.

The action forced HBO Max’s head of programming for India, Saugata Mukherjee, to resign after only a year on the job.

Mukherjee, who joined HBO Max as content head in November of last year, is anticipated to return to SonyLIV.

Arjun Nohwar was hired as the GM of Warner Bros. Discovery for South Asia earlier in June. He was in charge of launching HBO Max in India before this.

The merger of Warner Bros. with Discovery Communications, which occurred after the former was separated from AT&T, has resulted in changes to the business.
