BP Kanungo, a former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and Kaushik Dutta, the current chairman of food delivery startup Zomato, were appointed as independent directors by the fintech company
BharatPe.
The board of directors for the Gurugram-based company now consists of two executive directors—Shashvat Nakrani and Suhail Sameer, CEO—five non-executive directors and two independent directors.
While Kanungo will help the fintech develop a successful business, Dutta will play a significant role in taking the company public in the following two to three years.
Kanungo has worked for the RBI in several divisions and served as the nominee director on the boards of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) and the National Housing Bank (NHB). As co-founder of the corporate governance-focused Thought Arbitrage Research Institute (TARI), Dutta also serves on the boards of several firms.
