Bharatiya Mahila Bank to open 80 branches by 2015

The Bank will open its branches at Shillong and Itanagar this week

The Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) on Monday opened its branch in Agartala, the capital city of Tripura.

Usha Ananthasubramanian, Chairman and Managing Director, BMB, inaugurated the bank's 20th branch. The Agartala branch is the second branch of the bank in the northeast after the Guwahati branch which was opened soon after the BMB was established last year.

Branches will be opened at Shillong and Itanagar this week too.

Ananthasubramanian said that the basic concept of the bank was to empower women and help them transact financial services, some of which are specially designed to accommodate women.

The BMB is India’s first 100% government-owned women’s bank with a Rs.10,000-crore capital from the Central government.
