IndiGo and American Airlines have signed a code share agreement

American Airlines is the largest global airline by fleet size and revenue with a revenue of $29.9 billion. Currently, it operates flights on 1 route related to India, namely New York-Delhi.

Sensing the rise and a huge potential for growth in the Indian domestic airspace it has launched a codeshare agreement with InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. Popularly recognized and operating under IndiGo brand name, it is India’s largest airline by fleet size and passengers carried.

But what is a codeshare agreement you may ask? Well, it is an agreement that lets 1 airline sell seats on the other’s flights. So in our case, American Airlines will be selling seats on IndiGo flights.

The routes that are covered in the agreement are Delhi-Bengaluru and Delhi-Mumbai, according to the statement made on Thursday. The announcement to enter the codeshare was made by both airlines in September last year.

The stock for InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo) was in a downtrend till 9:40 am reaching a low of Rs 1772. After the news came out the stock price shot up to Rs 1808 and is now consolidating at Rs 1785.
