Market opens in green territory; Nifty above 16,200 points

Asian Paints and Adani Ports emerged as the top laggard at opening during opening bells.

Domestic market starts the day in green with marginal uplift in the highly volatile market. Sectoral indices Metal, Bank, and Financial Services sector opened nearly 1% higher followed by Pharma and FMCG with slight gains.

During opening bells, Sensex was trading at 54,331.40 points, up by 278.79 points or 0.52% against its previous close. Nifty traded 71.20 points higher at 16,196.35 points against its previous close.

At around 9.22 AM, BSE Sensex was trading 281 points or 0.52% higher at 54,333.68 points. NSE Nifty added 90 points or 0.56% so far to trade at 16,215.15 points.

IndusInd Bank (+2.83%) emerged as the top gainer with a nearly 3% gain. SBI Life (+2.47%), HDFC Life (+2.13%), Nestle India (+2.11%), and SBI In (+1.62%) joined the rally with nearly 2% increase.

Top laggards were Asian Paints (-2.91%), Adani Ports (-2.45%), followed by Tech Mahindra (-2.01%), HCL Tech (-0.89%), and Tata Motors (-0.83%).

On the sectoral front, Nifty Bank (+1.01%) and financial services (+1.13%) led the chart with over 1% gains. Nifty IT (-1.25%), Media (-0.32%), Metal (-0.37%), and Auto (-0.16%) remained under pressure.

On the global front, US markets had another full of volatility. Dow Jones ended the day on a marginally higher note with an uplift of 48 points or 0.15%.

Asian Indices reflect mixed investor sentiment as all indices lock position in green territory. Shanghai SE (+0.58%), Hang Seng (+0.58%), and Taiwan TSEC (+0.79%) topped the chart, followed by Nikkei (+0.11%).
