Markets end marginally higher in lacklustre trade; RIL top contributor to gains this week

Among Nifty50 sectoral indices, IT and realty stocks outperformed in today's session ending with gains of 1.3% each, followed by metal and FMCG, while the Media index was the only sectoral laggard.

Domestic markets ended flat on Friday, however, it closed with gains this week. Reliance Industries was the top contributor to the gains, contributing almost 180 points to the gains for the week.

The Sensex ended up 14.23 points to 38,854 while the Nifty50 ended at 11,464, up 15 points. The broader markets ended higher with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices closing 0.68% and 0.27% higher, respectively.

India Volatility Index ended 2.7% lower at 20.68.

Among Nifty50 sectoral indices, IT and realty stocks outperformed in today's session ending with gains of 1.3% each, followed by metal and FMCG, while the Media index was the only sectoral laggard.

Wipro, SBI, Tech Mahindra, TCS and UPL ended higher, while Zee Entertainment, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid, BPCL and HDFC Bank were the Nifty50 top losers.

The Indian rupee ended at 73.53 per dollar against Thursday's close of 73.46/$ as the US currency witnessed buying by banks and exporters.
