University of Westminster, UK Signs MoU with NMIMS University

NMIMS will be in a position to give its students and faculties a world class exposure apart from class room academics.

In pursuit of providing management and technological educational excellence, innovation driven research and promoting social equity to ensure global supremacy of 21st century’s India, SVKM’S Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Deemed-to-be University, Mumbai has opted to make its presence felt at international level by capitalizing on intellectual capital by signing an MOU with leading UK based University of Westminster which has produced Nobel laureate like Sir Alexander Fleming who invented Penicillin.
Global rating agency, ‘The Independent Chinese Ranking Guide’ has ranked Westminster Business School in 67th place amongst 120 institutions around the world. ‘QS Worldwide University Rankings’ has placed research and courses in Media, Journalism and Communications at the University of Westminster as UK number one and among the top 20 globally. Westminster has been ranked second in UK by the Professional Publication Architects’ Journal in their AJ Top 100 special issue. Westminster University is also contributing high quality research in fields of Science, Technology and Pharmacy.
NMIMS University’s flagship MBA is rated in top 10 Indian B School, School of Engineering is in top 10 emerging institutes, School of Commerce’s BBA is among top 5 and School of Pharmacy stands in top 10 in placement in India. With flair of internalization, NMIMS will be in a position to give its students and faculties a world class exposure apart from class room academics.
Dr. Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University, welcoming the Vice Chancellor of University of Westminster, Dr. Geoffrey Petts said, “NMIMS is emerging as a strong research focused entity and this resolve is further strengthened after signing MoU with University of Westminster, UK for international quality research in areas such as Life Sciences, Computing, Business Management and Architecture for which this University is well respected across globe.”
Dr. Saxena added that the first interaction of Westminster University officials with our Deans of  Schools of Engineering, Science and Pharmacy has already taken place where roadmap in terms of Joint Research, Student Exchange and Combined Courses has been drafted as the immediate implementation of this MOU. 
Dr. Saxena informed that in UK, we have 3 MoU existing i.e. with Warwick Manufacturing Group of University of Warwick for joint research in Manufacturing area. With University of Stirling, NMIMS has MoU for developing programs in Education Excellence and with University of Chester, NMIMS is planning joint academic program in Business Management and a Research Conference in India by mid of 2014.
Dr. Alok Jain, Director –International Linkages, NMIMS University said “Both Universities have direct synergies in Schools of Engineering, Business Management, Architecture, Science, Law and Commerce which will be converted to quality output in agreed areas before 2014 ends.” 
Dr. Geoffrey Petts, Vice Chancellor of University of Westminster, UK mentioned that that India’s contribution to global Journals and research dates back to 1841 where Jehangeer Nowrojee and Hirjeebhoy Mihrbanji of then Bombay wrote ‘A Residence of Two Years and a Half in Great Britain’ and now the same history is being revived for years to come by signing MOU with NMIMS University.
 
After signing MoU with NMIMS University, Dr Petts said, “Vision and energy of NMIMS University is attractive and wonderfully gels with our thinking. We are complimentary to each other and we will be open and keen to discuss this partnership at all levels. We are deeply impressed with NMIMS University’s keenness to operationalize the MOU across its Colleges”
 
Dr. Geoffrey Petts added that Internationalism, employability and sustainability are key elements in the University of Westminster’s vision for the future and we strive to ensure the very highest standards are met and maintained. Few known alumni of the University are Richard Barbrook (Political simulations and gaming), Cherie Blair (Senior barrister, wife of Tony Blair), Andrew Groves (Fashion designer), Charles Parsons (Engineer - inventor of the steam turbine), Alfred Waterhouse (Architect and designer of Manchester Town Hall and the Natural History Museum), Brian Winston(Emmy award winning documentary script writer), Moorad Choudhry – (Managing Director Royal Bank of Scotland plc), Sir Alexander Fleming (Nobel Prize in Medicine), Sir Diarmuid Downs (Former President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers), Lewis R.
