Akhil Handa resigns as head of digital lending at Bank of Baroda

1 Nov 2023 , 10:57 AM

The public sector lender announced the resignation of Akhil Handa, who oversaw Bank of Baroda’s digital lending division, in a late-night exchange filing.

According to the bank, Kadgatoor Sheetal Venkatesmurt would assume the responsibility in addition to her current duties as the director of operations and digital platforms.

‘As I embark on a new journey, today, October 31, 2023 marks the end of my journey at Bank of Baroda, and I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to my incredible colleagues for the incredible support and camaraderie during my time here,’ Handa said on LinkedIn.

‘Although I had long since decided to move on, I couldn’t officially proclaim it until my transition phase was over. Your assistance, inspiration, and cooperation have been extremely helpful throughout this time, he continued.

Notably, he had a key role in developing the ‘Bob World’ mobile banking app. On October 10, the RBI gave BoB the order to cease adding new clients to its digital banking app, BOB World.

‘Bank of Baroda ought to halt all new customer onboarding for the BOB World mobile application immediately. The central bank stated in a press release on October 10 that ‘this action is based on certain material supervisory concerns observed in the manner of onboarding customers onto this mobile application.’

As a member of the Corporate Leadership Team, Handa joined the bank in 2015 and has been in charge of Bank of Baroda’s strategy digital direction. He has been in charge of the P&L and the digital transformation of the bank’s business divisions as chief digital officer.
