Apple is narrowing its retail focus in India

6 Jul 2023 , 10:39 AM

To boost sales this year, Apple in India is putting more emphasis on retail outlets.

According to news reports, it has increased the sales target of the franchisee-owned exclusive retail stores in India by up to 100% and begun to provide discounts at its two company-owned brick-and-mortar and online stores there. According to them, these tactics show that the iPhone firm wants double-digit revenue growth in India.

According to reports, Apple has introduced a ‘student’ offer at its company-owned stores that combines a discount and freebies on Mac computers and iPad tablets, with a steeper overall deal value than what is offered in the franchise-based Apple Premium Reseller stores.

The business boosted the sales target for its Premium Reseller outlets in the previous quarter, and it has done the same in the current one. On an annual basis, it has practically doubled for some. There are more than 200 such stores in the nation.

Despite the smartphone market contracting at a historic rate, industry watcher Counterpoint Research reported that Apple is on track to sell almost 9 million iPhones in India this calendar year as opposed to 6 million in 2022. In India, Apple’s revenue increased by 16% annually in 2022.

In the lead-up to the holiday season, Apple wants to be proactive.

Samsung is now the second-largest brand in the premium smartphone market after Apple.

An industry executive who talked to ET claims that some of the premium resellers recently met with the Apple team and offered suggestions for ways to boost sales.
