Ashok Leyland inaugurated a ‘women-centric cabin trim line’ at its Pantnagar manufacturing facility in Uttarakhand. This cabin trim line is capable of assembling 56 cabins per shift across two shifts, addressing the growing demand for larger commercial vehicle cabins.
The line handles the meticulous assembly of painted vehicle cabins, including essential components such as steering systems, windshields, windows, electronic elements, headlights, and driver seats.
After component installation, the vehicles undergo comprehensive testing to ensure all safety and comfort functions are in optimal working condition.
This initiative aims to promote gender diversity, equity, and attract more women to the manufacturing industry, with women comprising the majority of the workforce in various roles, from production to quality assurance.
Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO at Ashok Leyland, emphasized the importance of creating a more inclusive workforce, particularly in the manufacturing sector.
The ‘women-centric cabin trim line’ signifies Ashok Leyland’s commitment to fostering diversity in manufacturing, challenging conventional industry norms.
Ganesh Mani, Chief Operating Officer at Ashok Leyland, highlighted that this initiative will create opportunities for a more diverse workforce and promote an environment of equality and diversity in a historically male-dominated manufacturing sector.
