Ashok Leyland said that passenger electric car sales, including international markets, increased by 54.9% to 6,236 units in the year-ago month. Total commercial vehicle sales were 32,077 units, up 1.9% from 31,492 units in the same month last year.
The company said that it witnessed an increase in Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCV) truck sales in August 2023, with a total of 7,709 units sold. This marks a 9% increase over the 7,671 units sold in August 2022.
Furthermore, M&HCV bus sales increased by 110%, with 1,304 units sold compared to 620 units sold in the same period the previous year. Overall, combined sales of M&HCV vehicles increased by 17%, reaching a total of 9,013 units.
In August 2023, Ashok Leyland sold 5,532 light commercial vehicles (LCV), a 2% increase over the 5,630 units sold in the same month in 2022.
Domestic car sales increased by 10% to 15,576 units in August 2022, compared to 14,121 units in August 2022. The carmaker achieved a balanced sales performance across several categories, selling 7,822 M&HCV trucks, 1,941 M&HCV buses, and 5,813 LCVs.
M&HCV vehicle sales increased by a mere 1%, while LCV sales remained relatively constant. However, the standout result was seen in the M&HCV bus market, where sales increased by 84%, indicating a significant increase. In addition, M&HCV truck sales increased by 7% over the previous year.
