Automatic Train Supervision System deployed at Rithala- Shaheed Sthal metro line

21 Feb 2023 , 10:42 AM

The Delhi Metro has unveiled the i-ATS (Indigenous – Automatic Train Supervision), a Train Control & Supervision System that is the first of its kind to be developed within India. This impressive feat is the result of a collaborative effort between Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The company said that it has been introduced for operations on its first corridor, Red Line (Rithala to Shaheed Sthal).

Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Chairman, Delhi Metro, formally launched the i-ATS system on the Red Line today from the Operations Control Centre (OCC), Shastri Park.

Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, Delhi Metro, Manoj Jain, Director (R&D), BEL, Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, Chairman & Managing Director, BEL, and other senior officials of DMRC and BEL were also present at the event.

This signalling system was developed collaboratively by BEL and DMRC under the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ initiatives for Metro Rail Transit Systems.

Beginning with the Red Line, the i-ATS System will be used for operations on Delhi Metro’s other operational corridors as well as the upcoming independent corridors of the Phase 4 Project, stated the company in its media release.

In order to move the project forward, BEL and DMRC signed a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2022. A dedicated team of BEL and DMRC employees is preparing the technology for use.

A full-fledged i-ATS Lab, which was established at DMRC’s IT Park to simulate site requirements, is now being upgraded for CBTC development. Under the mandate of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, BEL and DMRC have actively collaborated in the development of various Metro and Rail systems.
