Benchmarks trade with minor cuts; auto stocks decline

The key equity barometers traded with minor cuts in mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 17,900 mark. Auto shares declined for second consecutive session. At 14:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 92.91 points or 0.15% to 60,167.22. The Nifty 50 index lost 26.60 points or 0.15% to 17,917.65. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.29% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.32%. The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1,851 shares rose and 1,512 shares fell. A total of 141 shares were unchanged. Numbers to Track: The yield on Indias 10-year benchmark federal paper rose to 7.248 as compared with 7.182 at close in the previous trading session. In the foreign exchange market, the rupee was lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 79.6725, compared with its close of 79.4500 during the previous trading session. MCX Gold futures for 5 October 2022 settlement rose 0.37% to Rs 51,734. The US Dollar index (DXY), which tracks the greenbacks value against a basket of currencies, was up 0.21% to 106.80. In the commodities market, Brent crude for October 2022 settlement fell 41 cents or 0.44% to $91.93 a barrel. Buzzing Index: The Nifty Auto index slipped 0.66% to 13,107.10. The index has lost 1.08% in two sessions. Sona BLW Precision Forgings (down 4.12%), Tube Investments of India (down 2.89%), Bosch (down 1.88%), Bharat Forge (down 1.72%) and were the top losers. Among the other losers were Escorts Kubota (down 0.9%), Ashok Leyland (down 0.85%), Tata Motors (down 0.54%), Bajaj Auto (down 0.39%) and Maruti Suzuki India (down 0.34%). Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) lost 1.17%. M&M said that the total production of automobiles was 54,822 units in July 2022, which is higher by 28% as compared with 42,963 units produced in the same period last year. Stocks in Spotlight: Dilip Buildcon gained 1.43% to Rs 247.50. The company said that its joint venture Dilip Buildcon-Skyway Infraprojects (DBL-SIPL) has executed an EPC agreement with the Madhya Pradesh Jal Nigam Maryadit, Bhopal (M. P.). The project cost is Rs 1,400.04 crore. Datamatics Global Services added 0.86%. The company said that it has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with AccessFares for enhancing the customer experience for the latters premium international airfare services.
