The government has extended the deadline for submitting bids for the seventh round of commercial coal mine auctions until June 27, 2023, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.
The government had previously set May 30 as the deadline for submitting bids for the 106 coal mines put up for auction in the most recent round of auctions.
The government launched the seventh round of commercial coal auctions on March 29 in order to increase the country’s availability of dry fuel.
The Ministry of Coal stated, “Considering the large number of requests received from potential bidders, it has decided to extend the last date for bid submission by 28 days now and the last date for bid submission for seventh round would be June 27, 2023, against the previous May 30, 2023.”
The Ministry further highlighted that so far, it has allocated 133 mines with a cumulative peak-ready capacity (PRC).
For facilitating the private players to develop coal mines, the Ministry is assisting them with the necessary support in terms of land availability, assistance from financial institutions, environment/forest clearances, and inter-agencies coordination, it said.
In the current financial year, the ministry targets 162 MT production from captive/commercial mines.
