In an effort to strengthen its position as the industry leader in the two-wheeler tyre market and to help premiumize the brand, tire manufacturer CEAT Ltd. is venturing into the steel radial market for two-wheelers. The company aims to serve both the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and aftermarket markets with the debut of its new premium line of two-wheeler steel radial tires on Friday.
Steel radial tires for two-wheelers are a very important market from a number of perspectives. There is a very strong developing trend in the consumer arena where people are getting off the road and going on solo and group leisure bike trips due to improved infrastructure and increased affordability. They’re going on adventures, off-road riding on the weekends, and adventure biking,’ Arnab Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO of CEAT Ltd., told ET.
He went on to say, ‘As of now this market is about 3% of the overall two-wheeler market, but it is rapidly going to gain in saliency.’
Second, Banerjee declared, ‘We lead the two-wheeler (tyre) market.’ Thus, our actions also determine how we behave and develop the section. Therefore, the launch is noteworthy in that regard.’
He went on to say that helping to premiumize the entire brand is the other motivation for entering the steel radial tyre market for two-wheelers.
‘Commuters lead the two-wheeler segment in all other cases. People commute from their homes to their offices on it as their business bike. completing many tasks in the tiny towns. Thus, this is a significant divergence. The consumer trend is thus, according to Banerjee.
With its new line of goods, CEAT is aiming for both OEM supply and the aftermarket, albeit its first focus will be on the aftermarket.
‘We are involved in several projects with OEMs for bikes which are going to be launched with CEAT steel radials,’ he stated.
Regarding the segment’s potential, he stated, ‘We anticipate holding a prominent place in the market and will develop alongside it, ideally at a quicker pace, as industry saliency increases.
As time goes on, it will become more and more noticeable.’
According to Banerjee, the new product line is initially targeted at the home market and is a domestic project.
‘The conditions for exports are distinct. Although we are researching the export market, we do not currently have any plans to enter it (with the two-wheeler steel radial tires),’ he stated.
