The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has asked commercial cement producers JK Cement, ACC, Shri Cement, and Ambuja to remove refuse-derived fuel (RDF) waste from dump sites for the first time in Delhi.
Combustible elements of municipal solid waste are used to create RDF. In order to remove RDF waste from three disposal sites, MCD and JK Cement have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
In the presence of Raghavpati Singhania, managing director of JK Cement, and Ashwani Kumar, special officer for MCD, five trucks transporting roughly 100 million tonnes (MT) of RDF waste from the Okhla dump site were flagged off by Delhi Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena on Monday.
Up until last month, impanelled organizations charged MCD Rs1,746 per MT for RDF disposal. MCD has now started charging the industry for RDF. This project would efficiently handle the issue of disposing of waste in an environmentally sustainable manner while also saving the cash-strapped MCD between Rs1,200 and Rs1,500 per MT. JK Cement will yearly remove 50,000 MT of RDF, saving the MCD Rs6.73 crore in the process.
