According to news reports, Foxconn, an Apple contract manufacturer, has started production of the iPhone 15 in India. The most recent version of Apple’s most well-known product will be created in India by the Taiwanese company just a few weeks after production begins in China. The product is scheduled to be released globally next month.
‘New product introduction’ (NPI) for the next iPhone 15 has reportedly begun at Foxconn’s facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, according to news reports. Mass production is expected to commence closer to the launch date.
They noted that the move is a part of Apple’s effort to diversify its manufacturing operations away from China and that India is a key component of its objectives.
At Foxconn’s Zhengzhou factory, trial production of the iPhone 15 began in China in June, according to reports. At Foxconn’s facilities, parts began arriving in India around the same time for the device’s trial production.
According to one of the reports mentioned above, Foxconn imported components for approximately 100 units of the forthcoming iPhone in June. These components comprised the display assembly, camera sensors, and other components. The report claimed that this demonstrated that the Tamil Nadu plant is now doing test runs prior to launching mass production.
Another executive likewise attested to the beginning of trial production. The executive told ET, ‘Given that Apple will be exporting batches of the iPhone 15 from India immediately after the launch, it is all but likely that the NPI process has already started.’
Industry observers claimed that Apple’s earlier iPhone 14 production had begun in India just a few weeks after it had started in China, and that the iPhone 15 would be manufactured simultaneously in India along with China.
The iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 models are now produced by Apple’s three suppliers, Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron, in their factories in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Future iPhone 15 production is anticipated to be made by Foxconn, while iPhone 15 Plus manufacturing will begin with Pegatron.
Tata executives are now in charge of the Wistron plant, which is also working on an NPI process for Apple. But according to sources, the iPhone 14 Plus will probably be produced.
