As per the reports of the Economic Times, India’s top gas supplier, GAIL (India) Limited plans to build ethane cracker facility near its liquefied natural gas (LNG) import plant in Maharashtra, as the company seeks to meet the expected surge in demand.
The company is looking for land in the coastal area of Dabhol in Maharashtra for 1.5 million tonnes per annum cracker project. GAIL already operates a 5 mtpa LNG plant in Dabhol. It is planning to import ethane from United States for the project.
GAIL is also exploring the possibility to acquire land in Madhya Pradesh, which neighbours Maharashtra, if a deal in Dabhol doesn’t materialize, as per the sources.
